Thomson ST 585 with Alzheimer’s disease

It does happen arbitrary, but my Thomson ST 585 looses it’s configuration completely each time there is a power outage. It happened just a few days ago to me again. Of course configuring a PPPoE connection on the Tomson ST 585 isn’t very hard, but the IPTV connection is currently undocumented. EPT can update the configuration via the remote administration feature of the Thomson ST 585, but it takes some time, which is really annoying. I think I will need to document how to setup the IPTV configuration without the help of the EPT helpdesk. Unfortunately my lab network is currently not available so I will have to wait until after my trip to southern France.

EPT Fritz!Box 7570 VDSL supports voipGATE

Today I finally got access to an EPT Homeserver, which actually is a Fritz!Box 7570 VDSL, with a few features missing compared with a Fritz!Box 7270. Some of the missing features are Remote Administration and DynDNS support. But amazingly the EPT Homeserver supports the VoIP service by voipGATE. The VoIP and telephony features are essentially the same as those of the 7270, e.g. 2 analog phone ports (called FON1 and FON2), an internal ISDN interface, DECT and WLAN 802.11n support. MX records for mcs.tel

Today Patrick brought my attention to a fact which I ignored during the last weeks, MX records for .tel domains. So I downloaded the PHP version of the Telhosting Client from http://dev.telnic.org/trac/browser/apps/php/trunk (SVN: http://dev.telnic.org/rep/apps/php/trunk). It took about 5 minutes to download the WSDL file from my registrar, patch the WSDL file and configure my domain name, username and password. This process is well documented and here is the result:

Query the root servers via IPv6

I did some DNS debugging and noticed that my server wasn’t querying the root-servers via IPv6. I checked the root hint zone file delivered with my Bind9 binary package, the file was from 1998! So I downloaded the latest version from http://www.internic.net/zones/named.root. Of course IPv6 queries to the root-servers work like a charm now, however please note that only 7 of 13 root-servers are IPv6-enabled.

Hidden subfolders/-domains for .tel

I haven’t checked into TelHosting during the last weeks, so I don’t know exactly when this feature was added, but the “TelHosting Release Update 60 Hotfix 1 (build 5084)” now allows to hide subfolders /-domains from its parentfolder /-domain, additionally you may apply privacy rules onto the link to the subfolder /-domain.

Unfortunately privacy rules are not yet available for the content of subfolders /-domains yet. However I have heard that this feature should be available for the Summer.
