AVM Fritz!Box 7270 allows to run VoIP over UMTS

Some while ago AVM released firmware version 54.04.70 which added support for an UMTS Internet access, later this year version 54/74.04.76 added more feature to the UMTS uplink.

I always wanted to test VoIP over UMTS using a Fritz!Box, end of July I finally had the time to setup a testing scenario with a stable UMTS coverage. I was so excited about the result that I completely forgot to write a post about the test. Continue reading “AVM Fritz!Box 7270 allows to run VoIP over UMTS”

AVM releases IPv6 BETA firmwares for international Fritz!Box versions

AVM just released 2 IPv6-enabled BETA firmwares for the international versions of the Fritz!Box models 7270 and 7570 VDSL.

I have been testing the BETA firmware for about 2 weeks now. I’m very with the new DECT coverage this firmware provides, it almost doubled the coverage for me. Continue reading “AVM releases IPv6 BETA firmwares for international Fritz!Box versions”

EPT Fritz!Box 7570 VDSL supports voipGATE

Today I finally got access to an EPT Homeserver, which actually is a Fritz!Box 7570 VDSL, with a few features missing compared with a Fritz!Box 7270. Some of the missing features are Remote Administration and DynDNS support. But amazingly the EPT Homeserver supports the VoIP service by voipGATE. The VoIP and telephony features are essentially the same as those of the 7270, e.g. 2 analog phone ports (called FON1 and FON2), an internal ISDN interface, DECT and WLAN 802.11n support. New IPv6 firmware release for the Fritz!Box

On 20th May AVM released their latest lab version (54.04.94-14338) of the IPv6 enabled firmware for the Fritz!Box 7270. A few of the fixes in this release are:

  • the Fritz!Box now replies to the SIXXS control pings, so that you can collect points.
  • the GUI for UMTS Internet access configuration has been optimized, I haven’t tested if it works in Luxembourg, I hope to do so in the next few days.
  • a few other security and usability optimizations.

How to (de-)activate T.38 on a Fritz!Box

Due to popular demand, I will try to explain how to disable/enable T.38 support on the Fritz!Box. Unfortunately the setting for T.38 support is a global settings, so you cannot activate/deactivate T.38 support per SIP account, however careful routing should cope with this limitation. So this is the way to go: Continue reading “How to (de-)activate T.38 on a Fritz!Box”

SixXS support for the Fritz!Box

I recently tested the 6to4 IPv6 support in the latest AVM Firmware for Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7270. Now I tried to setup a tunnel to SixXS which failed during my first tests. The Fritz Box didn’t complain about the fact that my SixXS tunnel didn’t have any subnet allocated. Once a subnet was added to my tunnel, the Fritz!Box was able to setup the tunnel. I had my tunnel set to “6in4-heartbeat”, I haven’t tested “AYIYA”. I also found another IPv6 enabled website: ripe.net, quite obvious at second view 😀

My Fritz Box runs IPv6

I installed the latest firmware (54.04.94-13992) for the AVM Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7270 released on 31 march 2009. The 6to4 configuration just works out of the box on my DSL from EPT. Unfortunately EPT doesn’t run an own 6to4-relay so they currently route me to a 7 hops away Hurrican Electric 6to4-relay. I didn’t get the SIXXS support to work yet, I will retry it on some other day. Continue reading “My Fritz Box runs IPv6”

Fritz!Box latest firmware xx.04.70

The latest AVM Fritz!Box firmware currently available for the models

  • Fritz!Box WLAN 3270
  • Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7170
  • Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7270

brings interesting new features. The most interesting for me are the internal SIP Registrar Server and the support for USB HSDPA modems. Continue reading “Fritz!Box latest firmware xx.04.70”
